Janine Turner Tackles New TV Role LOS ANGELES (AP) - Janine Turner played bush pilot Maggie O' Connell on the '90s hit TV series "Northern Exposure." She's happy to be haunted by the legacy of the show, set in the tiny Alaskan town of Cicely, which is being rerun on the A&E television network. "Maggie was such a strong, quirky character that you don't mind that it follows you," she told The Associated Press. "Northern Exposure" began as a summer series in 1990. After it ended in 1995, Turner turned to film. She was America's perfect mom, June Cleaver, in 1997's "Leave It to Beaver," among other roles. Now she's back on television, playing Dr. Dana Stowe on Lifetime Television's drama "Strong Medicine." "She's very devoted to her work," the 38-year-old actress said of her character. "But now she's starting to have an affair with an intern. She's having more fun. She's starting to lighten up." The second season of "Strong Medicine" premieres July 15, 2001. "It's a show which takes risks. It doesn't always have all the answers, but it always makes you think," Turner said.
